“Mormon children choosing the faces they will wear in the next world, Salt Lake City, 1948.”

Yesterday a colleague forwarded this bizarre item to me and several others.

This very puzzling tweet has generated some humorous comments among Mormons (e.g., “Am I not living right, because I haven’t gotten the opportunity to do this yet”).

I scrolled through the tweets at https://twitter.com/historyinpix?lang=en and, sure enough, this is a legitimate tweet, right there among tweets with all kinds of other fascinating photos that actually have (by all appearances) accurate captions (by the way, whoever is responsible for those tweets has a real fondness for Audrey Hepburn).

As of now this tweet has been re-tweeted 206 times and has been “hearted” 424 times.

Does anyone know who came up with this?
