“Brothers and sisters, all the Lord expects of us is to try, but you have to really try!” – – Gordon B. Hinckley

Yesterday I watched each session of the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the morning session Elder J. Devn Cornish shared this quote by President Hinckley, one of my favorite quotes of the day.

This morning I searched for a source for this quote so that I could give its precise wording, but the text of the talks have not yet been posted.  I did, however, find the quote in the following blogpost:

Elder Cornish’s Theology of Grace for a Diverse Church #LDSconf

The blogpost itself contains some nice insights on the Church’s teachings regarding the relationship between works and grace, such as this thoughtful and concise thought: “It’s not that trying actually saves us so much as that it brings us closer to Jesus, who saves us.”
