“Tom Jackson announces retirement from ESPN”

What an awesome player and personality, as well as sportscaster.

I’ll never forget when the Broncos played the Raiders in Oakland during the season that culminated in Denver’s first Super Bowl appearance.  The Broncos beat the Raiders. Perhaps the Broncos had beaten the Raiders in Oakland before that, but it seemed like they had never done son.  At some point during the game Jackson ran past Raiders coach John Madden and yelled “It’s all over now, fat man!”

The same season, the Broncos faced the Baltimore Colts in Mile High Stadium, with the game on the line in the fourth quarter the Colts had the ball on the Broncos 30- or 20-yard line, were driving toward the north end zone, Colts quarterback Bert Jones threw the ball into the left flat, Jackson intercepted it, and ran 70 or 80 yards straight down the field for a touchdown.  Electrifying.
