“Herald Journal (Logan, UT)”



The Herald Journal traces its beginnings to an 1879 publication established as an extension of the Ogden Junction. The semi-weekly Ogden paper had, for several years, printed a substantial amount of Logan news and finally decided to give Cache Valley a masthead of its own. The weekly was named the Logan Leader and its initial issue appeared on September 11, 1879, and the name was changed to the Utah Journal on Aug. 1, 1882.

Ownership changes weren’t uncommon in early Utah newspapering and the Journal was no exception. The paper was bought and sold a number of times and many competing newspapers emerged. The most notable was the Cache Valley Herald which began on Dec. 11, 1925. On Aug. 1, 1931, the Herald and the Journal were merged . . .
