“American taxpayers are inadvertently helping to fund [ISIS]…” (Islamic State’s finances – – Degraded, not yet destroyed – – The Economist)

Aid agencies in Syria among those organizations that purchase oil from ISIS, and in that way American taxpayers are helping to fund ISIS.

The article describes some of the economic challenges ISIS is facing a result of the efforts of the United States and others to counter the group, but the pace of the efforts is frustrating, and tragic, in the extreme.

And, what’s  up with the behavior of a country like Turkey that only of late is tightening controls to slow the flow of foreign fighters into the ranks of ISIS, or a company like Twitter that at one point allowed 20,000 active pro-ISIS accounts to exist on its platform? (See Islamic State, Unfriended [The Economist]) Thanks a lot, guys.
