World Indigenous Games – Endangered peoples come together to draw on ancient skills

Well, I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Excerpt One:  Besides shooting arrows, they will be tossing spears, paddling canoes, racing, wrestling, sprinting in teams while hoisting 220-pound logs, and contesting an old-fashioned tug-of-war—an event in which some of Brazil’s buffed-out, face-painted indigenous women reportedly strike fear in rivals’ hearts.

Excerpt Two:  Along with the Intertribal Committee, Brazil’s Ministry of Sports helped conceive the games and has co-sponsored indigenous tournaments in Brazil since 1996.
