The Power of Suggestion

Many an afternoon during my high school years I’d work out in the school’s weight room, shower, and go home.  One day the routine got interrupted right after the shower when I walked toward my locker, managed to slam my shin into a bench, and resisted the urge to cry out in pain.  Then I heard these words – – “Go ahead, say it.”  I had not noticed another student, a stranger, sitting near my locker.  I looked at him and he, assuming we both knew the word he had in mind said – – “It will feel better.”
