Thirty Minutes of The Book of Mormon

Members of the LDS Church have been counseled to read the Book of Mormon thirty minutes per day.

Between now and November, I may be able to complete some of that reading by following the presidential campaign in the  United States.

The article referenced below quotes two verses from The  Book of Mormon and summarizes several other passages.

Excerpt:  Last month, the far left website Salon ran an article entitled, “When Mormons Were Socialists.” It relied completely upon a deliberate misinterpretation of a few verses in the Book of Mormon. The author claimed that Mormon doctrine about events in the first century A.D. advocated for socialism. He declared that in the Third Book of Nephi, God punished a city because “the government disregarded the sick and poor.” Tellingly, the Salon article did not indicate where in the Book of Mormon the verses it relies upon are located, because they do not exist. At no time did the Nephite government ever give even a tiny amount of assistance to the poor.

Wow. It’s amazing sometimes, how some will go out of their way to misquote the Book of Mormon or something else just for political reasons. That’s way I’m not too into the “sport” of politics. At least the shoddy journalism buried itself, in that it didn’t give a source for their misinterpreted quote, which would speak for itself. I’m not too worried about this article though. I mean, who in their right mind would call the Church evil because it says to help the poor? Funny stuff.
