Today in Church a brother told of a conversation with his mechanic, a man who became a member of the LDS Church in his native Bolivia before coming to the United States. The mechanic told how in Bolivia he and his fellow converts to the LDS Church are so excited to have the gospel, are so enthusiastic, that it affects the way they act, the way they speak, everyone can sense their zeal and excitement for their membership in the LDS Church. Such Bolivian members may sell their home to raise money to travel to an LDS temple and receive ordinances there. The mechanic does not sense the same level of excitement among the LDS members in Utah, among people who have had the gospel their whole lives and who are surrounded by temples. It puzzles him. And so today, a brother in my ward shared that perspective, implicitly inviting us to reflect on the observations of his Bolivian friend and our own membership in the LDS Church.
